Sold my first 2 photos :)

My jewelry school had its first annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday Nov 30. Unfortunately, I was not informed of this until a week before so I didn't have any jewelry made up to sell but I DID have (just enough) time to fix up and print off some photographs.

This was my first time attempting to sell my photography and I managed to sell the first 2 below (in small 4x6 format, but still!.. my first photography sale! hehe)

Most of these images can also be seen at www.jessdismont.deviantart.com

*****I've also started selling greeting cards and prints at http://www.redbubble.com/people/jessdismont/art*****

Enjoy! :)

backtracking - Facebook Photography outing 3 Nov 2007

OK This one is pretty long. Let me start by saying I do NOT think all of these photos are of great quality. Why, then, am I posting them? ...Because many were experiments and others I like just because they document the day.

This was our first time meeting people from the group, except for Huge, who we already knew and who is basically the organizer. I really feel like I made 10 new friends that day. They were all SO nice and how cool is it that in this day and age we have online social networking, making it oh so easy for us all to keep in touch! :)

We stopped in China Town first to grab some dim sum. Happened upon this protest after we ate, while we were on our way to the metro to go to Parc Jean Drapeau.

These 2 are just to show a neat effect Steve showed me. I don't think I'll be using it to this extreme, but with it so noticeable in the 2nd photo, you can see what the effect is.

Protesters left the square just after we did and walked past us.

We later found out that this mural had just been painted earlier that day! I was playing around in Lightroom and came up with this (the actual mural isn't so vivid)

Blurry, I know. This wasn't really a planned shot, but I liked the way the passing lights illuminated the graffiti scratched into the metro window.
Our group leaving the metro. I'll get it crisper next time.

Really big, really cool structure that one of the guys with us climbed!
everyone minus me.. didn't take the time to deal with the timer

This one looked pretty retro right off the camera so I enhanced it a bit for fun. I like retro looking shots with warm tones, but I haven't really experimented much with them. Typical reeds shot. Could be sharper.

I thought her hood would look good with the puffs on the reeds behind her. I think I can make this photo a bit better but I haven't taken the time yet.
Typical Steve shot ;)
The limping Seagull.
Wish I'd had a slightly faster shutter speed... wasn't ready for it to fly yet!
Greedy, fat squirrels.

Not crisp at all, I know but I just thought it was pretty neat that the woman walked into my shot, causing that trail.
Going home.

Tibetan Bazaar

Went to a Tibetan Bazaar last weekend with 2 friends (planned on going with the Facebook Photography group, but was too tired to go when they went earlier in the day!)

Didn't really get any killer shots, but here they are anyway. My fave was actually taken on the way home!

Cute kid.

Pretty fabrics... I bought a lovely scarf... I'll have to take a photo of it.

Cute little lady (not a great shot, I know)

Not really sure what this is... anyone know? It looked cool though...

Really nice and friendly people who ran one of the stalls. They gave me an information sheet and invited me to come to their Tibetan Centre to take photos one day when they're practicing (or whatever the correct term is within Buddhism)

These are statues of goddesses they were selling. I think this is Tarah but I forget which one.

Pretty sure this is white Tarah.
(corrections welcome!)

Translation, anyone?

My favourite shot of the day (except one I haven't processed yet). The girl sitting on the right was a nice surprise when I looked at the shots (I got ready with my exposure settings etc and the angle I wanted and put the camera on rapid fire when the train got to a good point, so of course I wasn't 100% sure if I got the perfect shot).
